Inspired by the patterns left in the sand by the tide at Gullane Beach.

Figured sycamore has a natural ripple (chatoyance) and so reflects and interacts with light differently depending on the angle you look at it. I have exploited this natural phenomena by rotating the veneer to sculpt the rhythms and undulations left by the sea at low tide. The design wraps itself around the two sides, front and top of the cabinet, using a mitred frame to create a seamless transition. This is marquetry at its most refined.

The cabinet features two soft-close drawers and an adjustable shelf. The brass handles are bespoke.
